SternMaid has once again been recognized by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Schwerin as a TOP Training Company – marking the twelfth consecutive award. This recognition means a lot to us, as it highlights the importance we place on training and developing young talent. Behind this success is the daily commitment of many colleagues who support our YoungStars and bring our training programs to life.
During the event, Martin Ehrlich and Mary Dunker shared insights into how training is put into practice at SternMaid. Fixed home departments provide structure and create a sense of belonging right from the start. At the same time, assignments in other areas enable our YoungStars to gain a broader understanding beyond their immediate workplace. Another important element is our apprentice roundtable at shift handover. The format is intentionally simple – and that is exactly what makes it so valuable. It creates a reliable space for questions, challenges, honest feedback and also for recognizing everyday achievements.

What makes training at SternMaid special
Equally important to us is the close exchange with other companies. We maintain strong connections with other organizations as well as with IHK examiners in order to share our experiences with vocational education. This allows us to provide constructive feedback to educational institutions on what apprentices often lack in their day-to-day work and which competencies should be strengthened further. These insights create valuable impulses that contribute to the continued development of vocational training in our region.
At the same time, we have learned that young people today do not need less guidance, but a different kind of support. They want to understand why they are doing something, expect feedback and want to be taken seriously. We do not see critical questions as a disruption, but as an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and better solutions.
The success of this approach is also confirmed by our YoungStar Elisa. SternMaid is part of the Stern-Wywiol Group, which has established its own academy to support the professional and personal development of YoungStars across the group. This also helped Elisa grow quickly into her new role. “For us, the key question is not why one generation learns differently, but what young people need in order to develop successfully. This latest recognition makes us proud and motivates us to continue providing the best possible opportunities for young people to start their careers successfully,” says Mark Riemer.
